Continuing an absolutely engaging series, the Geiserts take children through a year in a small desert town, from the hot dry summers and fall sandstorms to occasional big snows in winter. Along the way, in the simple text and calligraphic double-page spreads, they capture the lives of the townsfolk in panoramic view: the nighttime basketball; the house trailer comprising railroad cars and buses; the broken old plane restored. Other small stories are told, too: babies born, love and marriage, the joys of air conditioning. The goings-on are outlined in an endnote so children can go back to pore over tiny tucked-away images they may have missed.
