Monkey Subdues the Demon BSM005

$7.95

Illustrated with pictures from the original animated film and written in simplified Chinese characters and Pinyin, this beautiful book is based on a collection of popular Chinese tales about the Monkey King. The monk Xuan Zang is on his way to seek the Buddhist scriptures, accompanied by his three disciples, Monkey, Piggy, and Sandy. They come to a big mountain as dusk is falling and Monkey goes to get something for them to eat. The White-Bone Demon, disguised as a girl with bread, tries to lure the three men away from their task, but Moneky returns in time to "kill" her. Then the Demon changes its disguise and becomes an old man and an old woman, who are also discovered and "killed" by Monkey. Since Xuan Zang and Piggy cannot recognize the Demon, they get very angry at what Monkey has done. Xuan Zang even banishes Monkey back to his birthplace. But then the Demon captures the monk and Sandy, and Piggy, knowing his own limitations, has to seek Monkey's help. Using his head, Monkey kills the Demon and rescues his master and fellow disciple, Sandy. The four then return to their travels to India. A great book to enjoy and to practice reading Chinese. An English translation is included at the end of the book.
