In the 1850s, the first Chinese immigrants came to America by the thousands to search for gold in California. They were exploited, but undaunted. This is the story of how Chinese Americans worked hard, dealt with prejudice, built their own communities, and eventually came to thrive in a country so far away from and so different from the home of their ancestors. Now Chinese Americans are a vital part of American society, making great contributions in all areas of our culture and industry.
