Tools for Ancient Eyes to View the Heavens
NY TIMES

Some of the world's oldest stargazing tools, used by the royal astronomers of ancient China, are on display in Oakland, Calif., in their first appearance in the United States, at the Chabot Space and Science Center. Through Jan. 2, the hilltop observatory will showcase 32 artifacts, many of them original, and 13 interactive displays that make up "Dragon Skies: Astronomy of Imperial China."

China Faces Elderly Dilemma

BEIJING, Aug.21(Xinhuanet) -- China, the world's most populous country, is now crowned with another title: one of the world's most rapidly aging nations, China Daily reported Saturday. According to statistics from the National Population and Family Planning Commission (NPFPC), the country's top population policy-maker, residents who are 65 or older already accounted for 7.1 per cent of the overall population at the end of 2001.

Li/Sun Win Historic Gold for China in Tennis

Li Ting and Sun Tiantian, the top Chinese pair in the women's doubles, won for their country the first-ever gold medal in tennis, beating Conchita Martinez and Virginia Ruano Pascual from Spain 6-3, 6-3 in the final at the Olympic Games in Athens on August 22.
