Around 5000 B.C., the Yangshao settled in villages along the Huang He River, or Yellow River, in northern China. Around 3000 B.C, the Longshan built villages further south and east around the mouth of the Yangtze River. The ancient Chinese invented the abacus to do math. The abacus is often called the first calculator. Many everyday items that we use today, such as umbrellas, chopsticks, and kites, were invented by the ancient Chinese.
