$19.95
Just like Ni Hao 1, Ni Hao 2 is a great way for children to learn Mandarin Chinese. Children will be singing and dancing along with the kids on the screen as they learn about Family Members, Parts of the Body and Body Movements, Food and Drink, Clothing, and more. Created by Sunny Zeng, an experienced Chinese teacher who has taught in New York for over 10 years, this program maintains our high standards as a highly effective learning tool that works as well in a classroom setting as it does at home. Da Long, a Dragon hand puppet, joins our little friends in this video to help keep the learning experience fun. In addition to our classroom setting, you will enjoy their performances at the beautiful Chinese Scholar's Garden in New York. Subtitles appear in both Pinyin and simplified Chinese characters, and a booklet containing all the vocabulary words, drills, and songs in English, Pinyin, and Chinese characters is included as well. Another excellent choice for 3-8 year olds. You can also enjoy the songs performed in the video in NiHao Little Friends Sound Track., Here is the review from School Library Journal, a national trade expert's magazine that is written for school and library buyers.
"The second in a series, this live-action video teaches young viewers basic words and phrases in Mandarin Chinese through songs, drills, and games. A group of adorable Chinese children, shown in a variety of modern and traditional costumes, follow their teacher's lead in learning and demonstrating words for family members, body parts, body movements, food and drink, and clothing. A dragon puppet helps the teacher by providing some English translations. Subtitles throughout the program show both Pinyin and Chinese simplified characters, so viewers can read along. English translations are not shown, but are given orally. Each new word or phrase is repeated several times, and incorporated into activities and songs (using the accompanying booklet), and to show the video in short spurts with a lot of repetition. Chinese language classes would find this to be a useful addition to the curriculum. It might also lead into fun activities with younger children while discussing the Chinese New Year.
