Sing and Learn Chinese is designed for young learners from non Chinese-speaking families. The goal of the series is to encourage learner's interest in learning Chinese and Chinese culture through engaging classroom activities. Through the development of communication skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, the series provides a good foundation for learning Chinese in future. • Use of short rhymes and songs in conjunction with the Total Physical Response Approach adopted in teaching Chinese as a Foreign/Second Language;
• Many of the lyrics can be sung in familiar American and popular international children tunes;
• Basic vocabulary, daily expressions and elementary sentence patterns are introduced through listening, speaking, singing, and playing games;
• use the simplified Chinese characters accompanied by Pinyin and English. In the vocabulary appendix of each textbook the traditional Chinese characters are also provided.
