Enjoy reading about these famous festivals that take place in China throughout the year. For the Mid Autumn Festival, Chinese people celebrate by eating moon cakes while looking at the full moon. For the Double Ninth Festival, on the ninth day of the ninth month, is celebrated by paying respects to your elders and by eating rice cakes. For the Dragon Boat Festival, celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month, they race dragon boats and eat rice dumplings. Ching Ming Festival (or Tomb Sweeping Day) is usually celebrated on the 15th day from the Spring Equinox. On this day, you go out and get fresh air while remembering your past ancestors by paying your respect. The Lantern Festival is celebrated on the 15th day of the 1st month. On this day, you fly paper lanterns out to the sky to signal the end of the Chinese New Year celebrations. On Chinese New Year, is the first day of the Chinese calendar. This is the biggest holiday of them all. People celebrate by eating, spending time with relatives and loved ones, receiving red envelopes, and watching dragon and lion dances.
