這個故事取材自一位中國、非洲和古巴裔的女孩米洛，她的真實童年故事，她打破了古巴針對女性鼓手的傳統禁忌，在1932年10歲的米洛‧卡斯楚‧札達瑞加，和姊姊們組成安娜‧卡歐娜(加勒比海群島的女性酋長，擅長創作民謠和敘事詩)樂團表演。這是古巴的第一個全女子舞蹈樂團。

    米洛很快成為聞名全世界的音樂家，和當時美國爵士大師合作演出，15歲時，她在美國總統羅斯福的生日宴會上演出拉丁小手鼓，第一夫人愛倫諾‧羅斯福為她熱烈的鼓掌。現在古巴有多許女性鼓手，這都要感謝米洛的勇氣。
