Liu Sanjie, a legendary female folk singer in Zhuang minority in Guangxi Autonomous Region falls into a river and is rescued by an old fisherman who brings her back to his village. She sings songs to praise the industrious people while condemning the vicious landlords. Her singing enrages the village head landlord who retaliates by kidnapping her. With the help of Ah Niu, a young man she loves, Liu Sanjie escapes and moves to other places to inspire people with her folk songs.
