The Ni Hao series is a complete Chinese language course appropriate for beginning students in the upper primary grades to senior high school levels. The series introduces Chinese language and culture while teaching communication in both spoken and written Chinese. Practical objectives enable students to use Chinese in the classroom, on the playground, and within the local community. The first textbook stresses learning daily language in various topics and settings. Text is reinforced through rich illustrations and Characters are used throughout the text to enhance the students' reading and writing abilities. Pinyin only acts as a guide to pronunciation. Each unit of the text in this book includes the following subsections: Illustrated texts, Learn the sentences, New words and expressions, Write the characters, Supplementary words, and Something to know. Choose between Simplified and traditional Chinese character editions. Topics include asking the date/ birthdays, time/daily routing, position of things etc, clothes/do they fit, shopping, visiting or inviting friends, making phone calls, eating at a restaurant, and the weather. Introduces 440 words and how to write 140 characters.
What's new in the 3rd Edition?
- A new section "About Pinyin and characters" betters students' knowledge on pinyin rules and the origin of Chinese characters.
- Two new review lessons were added for each end-semester sum up.
